About Nessie

Where did Nessie come from?...

For many years now Scotland has been recognising the desperate decline in the countries health – this was partially due to its bad eating and drinking habits. In 2000, a new government campaign was introduced to all schools throughout Scotland reducing the amount of salt, sugar and fat allowed in school meals.

Access to most fizzy drinks were banned and replaced with bottled water, milk and fruit juice. The Campaign was called ‘Determined to Succeed’

Fionnar Natural Spring Water won the contract to supply all the schools within the Highland regions with small bottles with sports caps.

Realising that the pupils would not be happy with such a drastic overnight changes to their school diet, the team at Fionnar new they would have to create an image that would attract the students to the whole idea of a new healthy product – it had to be fun and trendy and appeal to 5 year olds right up to 17 year olds. Nessie was born!

As part of our campaign, we designed large posters for the schools, promoting how ‘cool’ it was to be seen drinking Fionnar and sponsored numerous school sports events and health days.

The concept really took off and Nessie proved to be a tremendous success – giving the ‘Determined to Succeed’ campaign an excellent boost.

In 2002, ‘Nessie’ won us the Zenith International Bottled Water Award for the ‘Best Label Design’ – a tremendous achievement for Fionnar in a highly competitive category as this competition is International and travelled to Paris to receive our Award.
Nessie can be seen on our fleet of delivery vans.
